&Beyond Announces Rebuild of Iconic Botswana Lodge - Sandibe
Leading experiential travel company &Beyond is committed to delivering extraordinary guest experiences. In line with this, the company has planned a considerable investment in its safari camps and lodges across Africa. The initial phase will reinvent &Beyond Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge, in the southern region of Botswana’s Okavango Delta. The lodge will be completely rebuilt and re-launched in July 2014.

The reconstruction of Sandibe has been planned in four stages to minimize the impact on guests. Retaining the camp’s romantic, ethereal essence, the new design will draw its inspiration from nature, pioneering a new look that is serene, earthy and organic. In keeping with &Beyond’s ethos of sustainable luxury, the new construction will remove all traces of concrete, as well as utilize the latest technology to decrease the camp’s footprint, with a total energy reduction of over 70%. The common guest areas will be moved forward and upward to maximize the views of the Santantadibe channel. Other updates will include comfortable indoor and outdoor lounging areas, an interactive kitchen and an interpretive naturalist library. Guest suites will increase from 8 to 15; the suites will be raised above the papyrus, camouflaged under the canopy of wild palm and fig trees, and boast a private plunge pool, and a fireplace for those cool winter nights.

What’s New

Eight of Sandibe’s new suites will open July 2014, with the remainder welcoming their first guests in September 2014. For more information on the timing and rebuild details, visit or contact your &Beyond representative.

In the News In the News: Footsteps in Africa Making a Difference

Footsteps in Africa is working to make a difference… for their wild friends. Working hand-in-hand with Botswana’s Department of Wildlife, on the Predator Protection Project, this initiative was started at Grassland Bushman Lodge to shield some of Africa’s most beautiful and endangered predators.

Grassland Bushman Lodge is situated on the western side of the Central Kalahari Game Reserve, surrounded by cattle ranches. Predators move from the Central Kalahari Game Reserve to these cattle ranches on a regular basis as it offers easy prey and a reliable source of water. Farmers in Botswana are often able to protect their valuable livestock, by, unfortunately, taking the lives of some of these predators.

This project works to save these predators, capturing and keeping them in semi-captivity at the lodge. The purpose of temporarily housing these predators is to save them from potential harm, with the intention of reintroducing them back into the wild in the future, as well as to breed the wild dogs. Visitors are also educated about this dilemma and have the opportunity to learn that projects like this can help improve the gene pool of Botswana’s predators.

Wild dogs used to be very common in all areas of Africa, and today they only exist in six African countries, including Botswana. With the current wild dog population just under 3000, they are on the verge of becoming extinct. But we all can help by “adopting” a wild dog! Adoption parents will receive a certificate with a photo and description of the wild dog, two monthly updates via email, PLUS the proud parent of a wild dog will qualify for a one-time only special rate at the lodge!

The adoption process is easy as 1-2-3. Find out more here or visit for more information.
