Keeping You "In the Know"... Updates from Botswana Properties

Safari Adventure Company Becomes Wilderness Adventures
Safari Adventure Company and its holding company, the Wilderness Group, are pleased to announce the evolution of the Safari Adventure Company brand - in the form of a name change to Wilderness Adventures. Since its inception some five years ago, Safari Adventure Company has been going from strength to strength, and it was felt that the time had come to express its spirit and its roots in one name. The spirit of adventure is a primary focus of Wilderness Adventures, attracting guests who seek to explore Africa through any number of exciting ways: viewing wildlife on game drives in open vehicles, walking through scenic, pristine areas, canoeing waterways, or indeed just being in the wild places of the continent. In this sense, the by-line of "Live adventure, love the wild" still holds true.
In addition, the company remains committed to the core vision of the Wilderness Group - that of making a difference in Africa by protecting its wildlife and partnering with local communities so that the benefits of ecotourism are available to those who live nearby. With the environment at the heart of the company's beliefs and values, their quest is to understand the wilderness better, to respect it, to care for it and to share it with their guests.

Wilderness Adventures is in the process of updating all marketing collateral and the company website http://www.safariadventurecompany.com/.

Botswana Suppliers Giving Back

This month, Botswana Tourism recognizes SGS Africa, a tour operator based in Kasane, for their involvement with CARACAL's Bio-Diversity Centre in Kasane.

The inauguration of the new cobra enclosure at the Bio-Diversity Centre in Kasane, took place recently. SGS Africa sponsored and helped construct the new enclosure for 5 snouted cobras. This larger space will give the cobras room to stretch their legs (as it were) and provides the public with better viewing to appreciate and learn more about these often misunderstood creatures. The new enclosure is complete with flowing water pond, plenty of large logs for climbing and cool rocks to hide beneath during the heat of the day. The Bio-Diversity Centre (located in Kasane on the airport road) is run by the NGO CARACAL; which is making huge strides towards community education promoting conservation awareness and sharing the wilderness with local and international visitors alike.

Spotlight on... Botswana-based Tourism Partners

Each issue we highlight one or more Botswana-based companies in order to provide you with more detailed company and product information. This month the spotlight is on Moremi Safaris, Xakanaxa Camp and Tuli Safari Lodge.

Xakanaxa Camp As passionate custodians of one of Botswana's original safari camps, the owners of Xakanaxa Camp have mindfully created an authentic bush camp that blends harmoniously with nature, whilst providing guests with exceptional comforts and extraordinary experiences.

Set on raised wooden platforms under the shade of towering trees, Xakanaxa's thatched dining room, lounge/bar area, curio shop, fire deck and plunge pool provide a restful sanctuary with magnificent river views. Accommodation for 24 guests is in twelve spacious and tastefully furnished tents with twin or double beds and en-suite showers, hand basins and toilet facilities. Situated on the fringes of the lagoon, each tented suite has a private viewing deck with comfortable loungers.

Located in the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, the camp is set on the banks of the pristine Khwai River that overlooks the Xakanaxa Lagoon. The ancient riverine forests, open savannah, serpentine channels as well as seasonal floodplains which surround the camp, make for a varied habitat of exceptional fauna and flora. The camp offers year-round land and water game viewing experiences. For more information on this property visit http://www.moremi-safaris.com/
