Great Plains Conservation Wins Big at the 2013 Safari Awards
Great Plains Conservation continues to shine as a three-time winner at the prestigious annual Safari Awards in London this January 30th. Great Plains Conservation camps, lodges and experiences were shortlisted for five awards, and received the following accolades:

  • Winner Best Safari Accommodation Group in Africa: Great Plains Conservation
  • Winner Best Safari Property in Southern Africa: Zarafa Camp
  • Winner Best Safari Property in Africa: Zarafa Camp
  • Runner-up Best Ecological Safari Property in Africa: Zarafa Camp
  • Runner-up Best Mobile Safari Operator in Africa: Selinda Canoe Trip

Great Plains Conservation CEO, Dereck Joubert said, “Winning at the Safari Awards is important to us at Great Plains Conservation especially because we are still a young company. Getting acknowledged by a respected organization like the Good Safari Guide sends a signal to us and our staff that we are on the right path. We aren’t there yet, but the direction is being acknowledged, and I can see the difference in our teams as they stand just a little prouder and try just a little harder as a result. I see staff helping one another to improve because of this new Corps d’Esprit.”

Blogging about Botswana
Sometimes, when Botswana is more than just a plane ride away, we like to curl up with a hot cup of tea and read about our favorite country. Whether it is a journey to the Makgadikgadi Pans, an ultimate educational experiment in the Kalahari Desert, mokoro tours of the Okavango Delta or a hotel room that left an impression – it all brings us a little bit closer. Check out some of our favorites from the last few months:

Botswana on the Road
The month of January kept the Botswana Tourism – U.S. team busy traveling to New York City and participating in the APTA NE "Gathering Gala," speaking at Focus on Africa trade professionals day, exhibiting at the New York Times Travel Show, and then off to Florida, participating in the Educational Travel Conference. We want to thank all those in attendance for their support during the shows. Next up: speaking at the Trade Day of the Los Angeles Times Travel Show on destination support to the travel trade.
